Here are a few thoughts for your amusement!

A lapsed Catholic named Michael had an important meeting and couldn't find a parking space. Looking up to heaven, he said, "Lord, take pity on me. If you find me a parking space, I'll go to Mass every Sunday for the rest of my life." Miraculously, a parking space appeared. Michael looked up again and said, "Never mind, I found one." Sy Safransky's Notebook, The Sun, February, 2008

I remember sitting parked by the roadside once, terribly depressed and afraid about my daughter's illness. Then out of nowhere a car came along with the license plate that bore the one word that I needed most to see right then. The word was TRUST. The owner of the car turned out to be a trust officer in a bank. Not long ago he read an account I wrote of the incident. He found out where I lived and one afternoon brought me the license plate itself which sits propped up on a bookshelf in my house. It is rusty around the edges and a little battered, and it is also as holy a relic as I have ever seen. Frederick Buechner

The honeymoon is over when he phones that he'll be late for supper - and she has already left a note that it's in the refrigerator. Bill Lawrence

There was that law of life, so cruel and so just, which demanded that one must grow or else pay more for remaining the same. Norman Mailer

If you're in a bad situation, don't worry; it'll change. If you're in a good situation, don't worry; it'll change. John A. Simone Sr.

Live as though you were living a second time, and as though you had acted wrongly the first time. Victor Frankl

Although failing fast, former US President John Adams was determined to survive until the fiftieth anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1826. At dawn on that day he was awakened by his servant who asked if he knew what day it was. He replied, "Oh, yes, it is the glorious Fourth of July. God bless it. God bless you all." He then slipped into a coma. In the afternoon he recovered consciousness briefly to murmur, "Thomas Jefferson still lives." These were his last words. Unknown to him, Thomas Jefferson had also died that same day.

I do dimly perceive that while everything around me is ever changing, ever dying, there is underlying all that change a living power that is changeless, that holds all together, that creates, dissolves, and re-creates. That informing power of spirit is God, and since nothing else that I see merely through the senses can or will persist, He alone is. Mohandas Gandhi

To know that what is impenetrable to us really exists, manifesting itself as the highest wisdom and the most radiant beauty, which our dull faculties can comprehend only in their primitive forms, this knowledge, this feeling, is at the center of true religion. Albert Einstein

I intend to live forever. So far, so good. Steven Wright

There is grace afoot in the world and it will find you. You don't have to be first in line. It will be diligent in pursuing you and passing on its gifts, which are faith, hope, love, and a sense of humor. The harder you strive for a gift, the more it eludes you, so let the lady step ahead of you in line. Keep your eyes open.

Garrison Keillor
