We Cry For America, A Protest Song

(Carole Glenn)
Words & Music by Carole Glenn
One morning I was deeply distressed, thinking about our beautiful country, its people, and the people of the world. From this despair the words and music of "We Cry For America" came into my consciousness. it is hoped that all people of conscious will join together to take back our country which was created "Of the People, By the People, and For the People."
We Cry For America

Chorus: We cry for America,
The once proud land of the free;
She's lost her soul,
Betrayed by the forces of greed.
1. Judy wanted to see her father,
Who lived a hundred miles away;
But the price of gas kept her home,
And her father died the very next day.
2. Fred worked for years for the company,
He was loyal, honest, and true;
But his pension in stock disappeared one day,
in despair, now what will he do?
3. Jane's faith was strong, she believed
"Do unto others as they would do to you;"
But she learned a hundred were tortured to death
In Guantanamo by the red, white, and blue.
4. Sam needs his medicine every day,
But the health care insurance is too high;
So, he lives in pain and misery,
Awaiting the day he will die.
5. Susan went to the polls in Cleveland,
She waited hours in the night,
But someone had removed her registration,
She was denied her citizen's right.l
6. John wanted to serve his country,
He joined the Army with pride,
Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have been killed in war,
Because his leaders have lied.
